Moogie Moose & Friends Explore NL is the first in a series of children's books about this province by author Melanie Maher. Moogie acts as an endearing tour guide to NL, providing simple bits of information in fun narrative. Through Moogie we are introduced to some main attractions as well as some folklore and festivals such as the Lantern Festival in Victoria Park.

This is a wonderful book that can be used as a read-aloud for children in pre-school and Grade 1. Older children in grades 2 and 3 will enjoy reading it for its educational and entertainment value. Educators can also use Moogie Moose & Friends as a teaching aid or starting point to introduce children to this wonderful province.

At first glance the illustrations appear too simple, in basic pencil crayon. However, soon it becomes apparent that this approach works very well. As an added bonus a colouring page is provided at the end of the book, encouraging children to be part of the story and part of the fun.
